Yoga Basics - 6 Week Series Lotus Healing Center Classes are for all levels and is the most beginner friendly yoga class at the studio. All are welcome. Basic does not mean easy, Yoga Basics means that Kara will break down common poses and sequences to teach students proper and safe alignment including modifications. Series is taught by expert yoga teacher Kara Bemis. Kara is a 500 Certified Yoga Teacher who has been teaching for ten years and practicing for 20. Each class will begin with breathwork, a warm up, move into standing and balancing poses, and finish with a cool down and will end with a minimum of five minutes of relaxation (savasana). Week 1: Yoga for Modern Times - This class will include movements and holds of poses that help to counter all of the sitting that we do in our everyday lives. Week 2: Sun Salutations - During week two Kara will break down Sun Salutations pose by pose, which are taught in most yoga classes. Modifications will be given for all levels. Week 3: Standing Poses - This class will bring back some of the poses from the Sun Salutations class and will also include other standing poses. Week 4: Balancing Poses - These poses are fun and challenging and foundationally help to strengthen the ankle joints. Week 5: Backbends - This class will feature more backbending poses, similar to week one but with Week 6: Forward Folds - To counter the prior class this class will include stretches that work to increase flexibility in the back body such as the hamstrings including seated forward folds.
